Welcome to Tynwald Primary Shool music department page.
Music covers a wide curriculum like theatre, poetry, dance, theory of music and musical instruments like
recorders, guitars, mbira, keyboard and marimba. Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences
in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition.
According to the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM Foundation) learning to play an
instrument can improve mathematical learning.
Music is a learning area that stimulates creativity, innovation and originality through performance, as Tynwald
Primary School we intend to help learners gain understanding and appreciation of art performing and also
motivating students to become independent problem solvers within different social setups. Art enables learners
to understand and appreciate the historical, socio-economic of their society, through theatre activities that foster
creative expression, discipline, collaboration, self-awareness and personal transformation learners from diverse
backgrounds and abilities channel their energies into inspiring artistic endeavors ,through understanding different
themes learners also develop the means to express their own visions and ideas, learning in art develops
confident learners who are better prepared to participate actively in their education, community and social lives.
But academic achievement isn’t the only benefit of music education and exposure. Music ignites all areas of
child development and skillls for school readiness, intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and
overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early
development helps them to learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build
motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children music helps strengthen memory skills.
